Where I come from we call people like him, “Heros.” I get that he broke policy, yada yada…but he helped that child. Sure, point out that as a rule, that’s not your SOP, but acknowledge the situation and the greater good and move on. You just told every firefighter in your community that your policy is what’s important, not what’s right. I hope you don’t show your face at a convention, because I can assure you that there will be a lot of firefighters who would love to treat you with the same courtesy and respect that you showed your officer. Unfortunately, you most likely won’t want to hear what they have to say.

As someone who has had to been transported by emergency services multiple times.... I say this. I don't care if its an ambulance, squad car, or fire truck. Time is not on the patients side EVER so getting a patient TO THE HOSPITAL is VITAL.

It is not a fire Crews responsibility to transport patients by fire truck but if the ambulance is going to be an excessive time away then if it is an emergency I believe you have to do it for the life of the patient. When you have a small child screaming because of agonizing pain that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on someone to make that call and most are going to make the call to transport just like I would if I was still working.
